Telecommand is the remote operating of a device. That device could be a vehicle or a machine and the link between you and the device is usually by radio.
Fulcrum Designs has been involved with telecommand at many levels from remote control of underwater pool lighting to the several craft developed for Anglers. Because of the nature of some devices, building in redundancy, error correction and a robust protocol have proved important aspects to design, not least because losing a device in a hostile or non-accessible place in unnacceptable.
Although telecommand is normally sent by radio, infra-red and ultrasound plus other more exotic methods also have their place.
Radio links are generally low powered short range (200 metre) as the device is usually within sight but by using telemetry there is no limit to the range.
